Though experiencing anxiety occasionally is a part of life but repeated and persistent episodes of anxiety are a psychological disorder which should be dealt with timely before the damage is done. Repeated feelings of anxiety are not just difficult to control but they also interfere with your day to day activities. The factors that increase the risk of developing this disorder are usually:

  • Witnessing traumatic events
  • Stress buildup
  • Mental-health disorders
  • Substance abuse or withdrawal

According to ADAA (Anxiety and Depression Association of America), the most common neurological illness in the country is anxiety disorder, affecting approximately 40 million adults or 18 percent of the US population. (1) Among different types of anxiety disorders, SAD (Social Anxiety Disorder) is quite common and affects roughly 12 percent Americans. Also known as social phobia, this type of anxiety disorder is characterized with intense fear in social situations.

Scientific and academic research studies are however, being carried out actively to find treatments to lower Social Anxiety Disorder. In fact, several researches conducted on Cannabidiol (CBD Hemp Oil) suggest its positive impact on the central nervous system and recognize its anxiolytioc effects. CBD oil is now being readily accepted for relief from anxiety and this is evident from its growing popularity.

Cannabidiol Hemp Oil is basically oil that is extracted from industrial hemp plants (cannabis). These plants are naturally high in Cannabidiol which helps counteract anxiety and paranoia. Click here for a list of the best CBD oils on the market.

Let’s take a deeper dive and review some research to see how CBD helps lower anxiety, how it works and what dosage for anxiety is the most effective.

Cannabidiol and Anxiety – What Researches Say?

Although research into Cannabidiol and how it impacts anxiety is still not conclusive, several medical professionals across countries are confidently recommending Cannabidiol (CBD) Oil as a low risk alternative treatment. Their confidence in CBD oil and its anxiolytioc effects comes from the studies being conducted actively. Take a look:

A research conducted by Halifax, Canada, showed that Cannabidiol had a negative allosteric-modulator of CB1 (cannabinoids receptor 1). This receptor is responsible for THC psychoactive high. The study showed that CBD bonded with CB1 receptor at a spot that was different from THC. And when the CBD bonded with CB1 receptor at the same time as THC bonded with CB1, the signals received by the neurons were not as effective. It indicated that CBD had sedative and anxiolytioc effects on the brain but it did not create psychoactive high similar to THC. The results proved that CBD reduced efficacy as well as potency of THC and had anxiolytioc effects on the brain. (2)

In another study conducted to find out CBD’s effects on social anxiety, a team of researchers carefully administered a SPST (Simulation Public Speaking Test). The subjects were tested before taking CBD and after it. This was done to compare the test results and evaluate the impact.

Stimulation Public Speaking Test is a test that is designed to stimulate a response in the person suffering from social anxiety disorder, similar to the kind of response they are likely to experience during public speaking.

The final test results of the study showed an impressive decrease in social anxiety disorder when the group was treated with CBD oil. It lowered the feeling of cognitive impairment and discomfort. The study was published in the journal “Neuropsychopharmacology” under the study title ‘Cannabidiol Reduces the Anxiety Induced by Stimulated Public Speaking in Treatment-Naïve Social Phobia Patients’. The study showed that a single dose of Cannabidiol could significantly lower social anxiety disorder and the symptoms related to it, such as difficulty in delivery of speech, anticipatory speech and cognitive impairment. Additionally, another aspect of the study that is worthy of being highlighted is that it showed that since CBD eased the speaking process for subjects, improved performance of the speaker also enhanced the attention of the audience.

Other valuable details that surfaced in the study as great outcomes were indicated through MRI scans. MRI scans of test subjects treated with CBD indicated provoked action in the paralimbic and limbic zones of the central nervous system. Both of these areas of the brain are interlinked with anxiety. Another effect of Cannabidiol that was noted was its ability to eliminate thoughts related to negative self evaluation while talking. It is believed that due to limited negative thoughts, CBD test subjects were able to speak more confidently without feeling anxious and nervous.(3)

CBD Oil Dosage

If you’re seeking a natural remedy to treat anxiety instead of pharmaceutical drugs, then CBD oil may be a good option for you. It can be taken orally in the form mouth strips, capsules and CBD chocolate bar.  However, some people use CBD oil vaporizers or inhalers as well.

The exact CBD oil dosage varies from individuals to situations. For example, you can increase your CBD oil dosage on days when you’re aware that you’ll be experiencing anxiety inducing situations.

Though we don’t advise over dosage, but so far there is no solid evidence or known fatal level of overdose for Cannabidiol. No known cases of deaths associated with Cannabidiol have been reported among the several decades of research on CBD. Here’s a statement from the US Patent # 6,630,507 which was held by DHHS (the Department of Health & Human Services)  “No signs of toxicity or serious side effects have been observed following chronic administration of cannabidiol to healthy volunteers (Cunha et al., Pharmacology 21:175-185, 1980), even in large acute doses of 700 mg/day (Consroe et al., Pharmacol. Biochem. Behav. 40:701-708, 1991)”. So, it can be said that CBD oil offers a safe and natural remedy for lowering anxiety. (4)

What Can We Conclude?

Based on the evidence and research studies, we can say that CBD Oil provides individuals suffering from anxiety a good, natural and more importantly, a safe alternative for alleviating anxiety and living a better life. However, you will need to experiment to find out what dosage suits your situation the best, but it is recommended that you start with small amounts and see how it works.
